About Us

Haw River Mushrooms has been growing mushrooms since 2012.   Founded by Ches & Laura Stewart, we began by growing mushrooms on logs, then expanded to growing on straw bags hung in a high tunnel.  In 2016, with the support of an $8,000 grant from the Rural Advancement Foundation and the NC Tobacco Trust Fund, we made the leap to becoming full time farmers and built a year-round indoor grow facility in a shipping container.  Each year we've continued to grow, and we have expanded our line-up to include award winning prepared food products including oyster Mushroom Jerky, Lions Mane "Crab" Cakes, Umami Mushroom salts and seasonings, with many more products in the works.  We are grateful to the farmers markets, community members, small restaurants and grocers who have supported our steady growth over the years, and hope to be your go-to place for fungus fun.

Ways to find us:

In person sales: We sell at six farmers markets throughout the triangle, at our on farm stand on Saturdays, and through contactless on-farm pickup via on-line preorders.

Order Online: We also ship non-perishable items anywhere in the US.  Currently we pack and process all shipments on Fridays.

Discover our mushrooms at Farm to Table Restaurants: We are also featured on the menu's of many of the best Farm to Table chefs in the Triad.  Check our social media to see what special dishes chefs are cooking up that you might want to try!

Take a Class: We are located on a 17 acre farm in Saxapahaw, NC.  We love to share our space and growing processes with visitors.  Check out our upcoming class offerings in the Classes and Events tab.
