Ever wonder how mushrooms grow or where they come from? Join us at Haw River Mushrooms for a hands-on, fun-filled tour made just for kids and families! We’ll take you behind the scenes of North Carolina’s biggest mushroom farm and show you how we grow tons of tasty mushrooms while caring for the planet. 

Here’s what you’ll get to do!

• Bring the whole fam: Each Family Pass ticket allows you to bring the whole family! Please reach out to annie@hawrivermushrooms.com if your group will be larger than 6 (for planning purposes only) or if you'd like to apply for a scholarship to reduce the ticket price.
• Watch a mushroom’s life from start to finish: See how we turn things like sawdust and soybean shells into the perfect mushroom-growing mix. Walk through our growing rooms and learn how mushrooms sprout, grow, and get picked—all indoors!
• Hear the story of how it all started: It began as a backyard experiment by two first-time farmers. Now, it’s a full-on mushroom wonderland producing up to 50,000 pounds of mushrooms every year—and still growing!
• Taste test time: Try a bite of our award-winning mushroom jerky! It's savory, chewy, and made right here on the farm.
• Keep the fun(gus) growing at home: Each family pass comes with a blue oyster grow kit to take home, as well as a special Haw River Mushrooms handout with fun mushroom facts, farm info, and an exclusive coloring sheet! Additional grow kits, merch, and mushroom-powered products are available for purchase after the tour.

Perfect for curious kids
This 45-minute tour is packed with fun facts, silly mushroom puns, and cool things to see and touch. Target age range 3 to 9 years old, but people of all ages are welcome!

Your tour guide will be Annie Seifts, a longtime Haw River team member who LOVES mushrooms (and knows a ton about them). She was promoted to "Mom" in 2023 and realized the value of getting kiddos involved with and excited about local agriculture. She’s thrilled to show you around and share her favorite mushroom facts—get ready to learn and laugh!
